CAPS GET PAST RAMS 5-2
Nathan DesRoches earned first star honors as the Caps defeated the Ramblers 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
After getting the night off on Friday, the Caps returned to the ice Sunday and they defeated the Amherst Ramblers 5-2 in front of 619 spectators at Credit Union Place.
DesRoches opened the scoring at 13:52 when he scored his 6th goal of the year from Cole MacMillan and Steve Brazil. The Caps then took a 2-0 lead at 15:30 when Ned O'Brien scored his 4th of the year from Lance Pridman and Robert McEwan. The Ramblers got on the board at 18:07 when Eric Boudreau scored his 6th of the season from Adam Chipman and Shane O'Byrne. The score remained 2-1 for the rest of the period. The Caps outshot the Ramblers 20-9 in the 1st period.
The Ramblers tied the game at 4:37 of the 2nd when Jeremy Barron scored his 11th of the season from Brandon Mercer and Justin Matthews on the powerplay. The Caps would once again take the lead at 6:57 when MacMillan scored his 4th of the year from DesRoches and Brazil to make the score 3-2 Caps after 2. Each team fired 13 shots in the 2nd to make the shots 33-22 in favor of Summerside after 2.
The Caps extended the lead back to 2 at 12:07 when Chad Earle scored his 16th of the season from Richard Greer and Parker Deighan. The Caps ended scoring at 19:43 when Trevor Carmichael netted his 17th of the year from O'Brien and Neil Sherren on the powerplay. The Caps outshot the Ramblers 16-13 in the 3rd to make the final shots 49-35 in favor of Summerside.
Summerside's Paul Dorsey stopped 33 of 35 shots in the win while Amherst's Jonathan Waye stopped 44 of 49 shots in the loss.
Summerside's Nathan DesRoches(1 goal, 1 assist), Cole MacMillan(1 goal, 1 assist), and Robert McEwan(1 assist) were the games three stars respectively.
Summerside went 1 for 4 on the powerplay while Amherst went 1 for 3.
With the win, the Caps now have a record of 16-11-0-0(wins-losses-overtime losses-shootout losses) and are tied with the Miramichi Timberwolves for 2nd in the Meek Division. The Ramblers fall to 11-17-1-1 and sit 5th in the Bent Division.
The Caps travel to Miramichi to take on the Timberwolves at the Miramichi Civic Center Wednesday night. Game time is 7:30 P.M. The Caps then return home to wrap up play before the Christmas break as they host the Dieppe Commandos at Credit Union Place. Game time is 2:00 P.M.
